The New Forest (so called because it was ‘new’ in 1079) has a lot of wild ponies roaming around, having lived in the area for some 2000 years.
This was my first visit to the area on a beautiful crisp and summer-is-almost-over day. I may return in Autumn to catch some of the colours, although I’ll make sure not to get stuck in the boggy areas next time…
There’s the nugget for your upcoming, best-selling, historical fantasy novel.

As soon as I uncover the unicorn grove I’ll make a start on that!

So good to know the wild ponies are still there. I remember visiting the New Forest as a child.

I was surprised at how many there are. Maybe as close to the prairies as you get in the UK
