I timed a trip to Helsinki at an exceptionally cold time: -30C. It was difficult to go anywhere outside without becoming frozen, and my camera was a solid block of metal that was too cold to touch with bare hands.
The ocean around Helsinki freezes over at these times, but ferries still carry on their business through the ice. I luckily arrived just as the sun was rising, causing steam to appear from the ice. It looked amazing.
This is a stunning photo! And even more amazing because you had to brave the frigid weather to take it!

Gorgeous photo. We had cold also: -33ºC / -27.4ºF. When shooting photos on cold weather, I use mitts and gloves.

Thanks! I definitely needed some additional protection for my hands, mitts may be the way to go.

Lovely! So sorry it as so cold. I need to get some gloves that will still make operating a camera possible in these terrible freezing temperatures. Now it’s raining though can you believe. The -30 is just a memory.

I had some thin gloves, but my hands get cold so they didn’t help much against the -30!
It got a lot warmer the day after leaving Helsinki – figures 🙂
