Heaven’s Garden

Image · March 22, 2016March 22, 2016 · 1 Comment ·

This is a selection of photos from Tian Tang, or Heaven’s Garden, a large temple complex on the edge of Shantou. It’s a fairly big place, with lots of places to explore. There are a lot of banners and upon investigation these seem to be … Continue reading Heaven’s Garden

Old Times

This man may just have stopped to stretch his muscles, but I’d like to think he’s reminiscing. Seen looking out across the bay in Shantou.

Smouldering

An incense pot at the Tian Tan temple in Shantou. It’s a wonderfully pretty place on the outskirts of town. If you go up the tower you can see the whole of Shantou from across the bay.

Koi Feast

Koi certainly get excited when there’s a bit of food.

Shantou Picnic

Shantou is a port city on the south east coast of China. It’s famous for its beef balls and satay style sauce, none of which is shown here. The people picnicking may be eating beef balls, which is about as relevant as this gets.

Inside the tower

Although there are some great views from inside the Canton Tower, I also liked the shiny-black surfaces inside the viewing area. The reflections make it feel like you are about to walk on water.

Guangzhou at night

Image · March 16, 2016March 12, 2016 · Leave a comment ·

Not an especially glamorous view, I will admit, but I’m pleased I got some streaky car lights in the photo. In the background you can just make out the Zhu Jiang river, and beneath that is an old village squeezed in beside the apartment blocks. … Continue reading Guangzhou at night

Guangzhou Alien Megastructure

Image · March 15, 2016March 12, 2016 · Leave a comment ·

Another in my series of Asian alien megastructures (1 and 2). These things are great, and better than any rotating restaurant. This black monolith is actually the Guangzhou Museum. You need to present your passport to get inside, and pass through an airport-style security scanner, … Continue reading Guangzhou Alien Megastructure

Canton Tower

Image · March 14, 2016March 12, 2016 · 1 Comment ·

Here’s the Canton Tower, as mentioned in Ride At The Top Of The World. It’s pretty tall. If you look closely you can make out the bubble ride at the top, and the platform where you can bungee from. Somewhere inside is a rotating restaurant. … Continue reading Canton Tower

Beijing Lu Lanterns

Image · March 13, 2016March 11, 2016 · Leave a comment ·

A rainy evening on Beijing Lu in Guangzhou. The lanterns are all part of the lantern festival, which seems to mainly consist of people eating sticky rice with sesame.
